Abstract

Reportes sobre lesiones en seres humanos asociadas a la emisión de sustancias defensivas de Carabidae no son frecuentes. Aquí reportamos un caso ocurrido a una mujer en Santiago, Chile, en 2021, hasta donde sabemos, el primero informado en nuestro país, en el cual un ejemplar adulto de Notiobia cupripennis (Germar) (Carabidae: Harpalini) quedó brevemente atrapado entre su pecho y su muslo izquierdo descubierto, lo que le generó localmente sensación de ardor y un agudo dolor. El seguimiento posterior de la evolución de la lesión asociada se corresponde con la de una quemadura química, como podría causarla el ácido fórmico, el componente principal de las secreciones en Harpalini. La lesión desapareció casi completamente después de 25 días sin secuelas permanentes a la persona afectada.
