EFECTO DE LA DENSIDAD Y ALTURA DE CORTE EN EL RENDIMIENTO Y CALIDAD DEL FORRAJE DE MAÍZ

Abstract

En este trabajo se evaluó el efecto de la densidad de población y la altura de corte sobre el rendimiento y valor nutritivo del maíz para forraje. El experimento se realizó en el Campo Experimental “Pabellón”, en Aguascalientes, México, con el híbrido comercial Halcón sembrado a tres densidades: 60 mil, 80 mil y 100 mil plantas/ha, y tres alturas de corte: 15, 30 y 45 cm. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques al azar con tres repeticiones y arreglo en parcelas divididas, donde la parcela mayor fue la densidad y la parcela menor la altura de corte. No se encontró efecto significativo (P ≤ 0.05) de la densidad ni de la interacción densidad x altura de corte en las variables de estudio, excepto en porcentaje de materia seca. Al aumentar la altura de corte disminuyó (P ≤ 0.05) el rendimiento de forraje seco de 21.5 a 18.6 t ha-1, se incrementó el porcentaje de elote de 39.6 a 43.1 %, disminuyó el contenido de fibra detergente neutro de 45.8 a 43.4 % y el de fibra detergente ácido de 25.5 a 23.3 %, y se incrementó la digestibilidad de 74.9 a 80.1 % y la producción estimada de leche por tonelada de materia seca de 837 a 1009 kg. La producción de leche por hectárea no varió (P > 0.05) con la altura de corte y presentó una media de 18.6 t ha-1. Los resultados indican que al incrementar la altura de corte se mejora el valor nutricional del forraje de maíz sin efecto de la densidad de población entre 60 y 100 mil plantas/ha.
