RENDIMIENTO Y COMPONENTES DEL RENDIMIENTO DE MAÍZ EN RESPUESTA A ARREGLOS TOPOLÓGICOS

Abstract

La siembra del maíz (Zea mays L.) en arreglos topológicos con tendencia a la equidistancia entre plantas permite incrementar el rendimiento de grano. El propósito del presente estudio fue determinar el efecto de arreglos topológicos en el rendimiento de grano y componentes del rendimiento en genotipos de maíz con diferentes características agronómicas. Se realizaron dos experimentos de campo en 1999 y 2000 en el Campo Experimental La Laguna (INIFAP), ubicado en Matamoros, Coah., México. En 1999, los genotipos 3025W, MCG y N7590 fueron sembrados en surcos sencillos a 0.38, 0.55 y 0.76 m, y en surcos dobles a 0.90 y 1.05 m. En 2000, los híbridos 3025W, 3002W y Garst 8285 se evaluaron en surcos sencillos a 0.38, 0.50 y 0.76 m, y en surcos dobles a 1.0 y 1.05 m. La distancia entre hileras en surcos dobles fue de 0.25 m. Se utilizó el diseño experimental de bloques completos al azar y arreglo en parcelas divididas con tres repeticiones en el primer año y cuatro en el segundo. Se determinó el rendimiento de grano y sus componentes, y el número de óvulos formados y abortados. La mejor distribución espacial de plantas en surcos a 0.38 y 0.50 m, y en surcos dobles a 1.0 m respecto a surcos convencionales (0.76 m), incrementó el rendimiento de maíz entre 13 y 32 %, debido a la formación de un mayor número de granos/m2 (16 a 18 %). El mayor rendimiento y número de granos/m2 en los híbridos 3025W y Garst 8285 respecto a 3002W en surcos estrechos, fue el resultado de un menor porcentaje de óvulos abortados. Los resultados indican que el uso de surcos estrechos en maíz puede incrementar el rendimiento de grano; sin embargo, es necesario identificar genotipos con mayor adaptación a estos arreglos topológicos.
