Abstract

El presente estudio se llevó a cabo con el propósito de evaluar pérdidas de rendimiento de grano de trigo ocasionadas por roya lineal amarilla (Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici) y valorar la efectividad de la selección masal visual recurrente para generar genotipos con alto rendimiento de grano y resistentes a la roya lineal amarilla. Se evaluaron los ciclos de selección C0 a C7 generados mediante la metodología MSFRS (Male Sterile Facilited Recurrent Selection), alternada en Chapingo, Estado de México (verano) y Roque, Guanajuato (invierno), de 1992 a 1997. En el ciclo de cultivo de otoño - invierno (0I) 1998-99 se realizaron cuatro experimentos en dos fechas de siembra (1 y 16 de diciembre): dos bajo la presión de la roya lineal amarilla y dos libres de ella. El tratamiento con protección contra la roya lineal amarilla mediante fungicida rindió en promedio 30 % más grano por unidad de superficie que el tratamiento sin protección. Al considerar las cinco mejores familias de cada ciclo de selección, se observó que las de mayor rendimiento de grano fueron las más susceptibles a roya lineal amarilla; sin embargo, al considerar las 240 familias incluidas en el estudio, es posible detectar variedades con alto potencial de rendimiento y resistentes a la roya lineal amarilla.
