Abstract

El Estado de Guanajuato es el principal productor de trigo (Triticum aestivum L.) de la región de El Bajío que es la segunda zona productora de este cereal en México. En el ciclo otoño-invierno (OI)1998-99 se sembraron en Guanajuato 98 072 ha de trigo, con una producción de 510 894 t, con la que se logr´ó en gran medida satisfacer la demanda regional. Sin embargo, en El Bajío se siembran predominantemente variedades de gluten débil y poco de gluten fuerte (3900 ha en el ciclo 1999-00), cuya demanda por la industria harinera en el ciclo OI 1999-00 para Guanajuato fue de 160 000 t.
