Abstract Can we find independent Webtoons? In this study, Sabine Teyssonneyre analyzes several publications from the Canvas tab of the Webtoon application. The aesthetics of these productions, which can be described as amateur, non-professional, childish, raises the question of the tools at our disposal to describe this type of artistic object, which does not follow the standards of “successful” and well done drawings. Are these deskilled comics, and how can we analyze them without denigrating or comparing them to more mainstream creations?
