L’esthétique du cadre dans le webtoon

Une analyse de "Soma" de Pierre Castel et Thalie Shelen

L’esthétique du cadre dans le webtoon

Abstract

Abstract This article will focus on an analysis of Soma by Thalie Shelen and Pierre Castel. This webtoon will be an opportunity to question the link between the panel and the tier, whose verticality is the basis of the webtoon. The particularity of this relationship in Soma is that the panel is not so much a narrative and drawn construction as an effect of media support and reading: the telephone screen in fact creates the framework for a plurality of fluctuating panels from what we propose to call a hyperpanel. This hyperpanel is based on a single image that merges with the tier and structures, like Benoit Peeters hyperframe, a plurality of virtual panels. This hyperpanel has a dimension that we can never grasp in its entirety. Because of these characteristics, it imposes singular reading effects that we will have to explore.
