Sentinel-5P-Validierung mit bodengebundenen FTIR-Messungen (S5P-FTIR-UniHB)

Abstract

Within this project a comprehensive data set for the validation of Sentinel-5P data was created using ground-based FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) measurements. Therefore, FTIR measurements of the NDACC (Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition Change) und TCCON (Total Carbon Column Observing Networks) sites were conducted and analysed. These data have been published in international data bases to be used for the validation of Sentinel-5P data. The data includes column-averaged dry-air mole fraction of CH4 und CO from TCCON stations and total columns of CH4, CO and HCHO (Formaldehyde) as well as vertical profiles of CO from NDACC measurements. This consortium opertes sites in Ny-Ålesund (79°N), Bremen (53°N), Karlsruhe (49°N), Garmisch (47°N), Izaña (28°N), Paramaribo (6°N) and Ascension (8°S). This project (Fkz 50EE1711B) includes stations in Ny Alesund, Bremen, and Paramaribo. All objectives of the project have been successfully achieved. A comprehensive data set of high quality was generated. This data set was intensively used to validate several S5P data products (colum amounts of CH4, CO, HCHO). The indepth inter-comparison with S5P data demonstrated that the S5P data products as well as the reference NDACC and TCCON data fulfill the data requirements. Finally, the precise NDACC- and TCCON data resulted in very valuable contributions to the validation of S5P data and confirmed the high quality of the Sentinel-5P data. The ground-based remote sensing data were essential for the validation of the above mentioned S5P data products (column amounts of CH4, CO,HCHO). The data and validation results were the basis of a high number of publications.
