The present Dissertation is in between project and theory, it aims to answer the questions associated to the development of a urban project and temporary residence for Fontainhas in Porto, proposed in the fall semester 2014/2015 of "Advanced Studies in Architectural Design" - EAPA, at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto. This course was completed with other subjects in parallel with Project and Construction, such as: History of Architecture; Theory of Contemporary Architecture; Urbanism; Design; Photography of Architecture; and Cinema and Architecture. In this way, our theoretical approach was transversal to the knowledge that involves Architecture practice. The structure of the Dissertation is in parallel with the development of the urban project and temporary residence. The project work was divided in three scales. The first works the relationship between the project field and the city, designing the overall organization - Urban Analysis. The second aims to design the urban fabric and public space of Fontaínhas - Urban Project. In the end, we develop a temporary residence from it's shape in the city to the construction details - Temporary residence. In this way, there were many doubts born from the development of this urban project and temporary residence that we intend to answer in the present Dissertation: First of all, before the design of the urban project: What's the relationship between Architecture and City? How can we relate the subjects of Architecture and Urbanism? How can we assume a urban project? Second, associated to the first phase of the project: How did urbanism begin? How was the urban planning implemented in Porto? How did the notion of public space changed over time? Then, we arrived to the project field and its design: What's the meaning of "terrain vague" in the interpretation of the project field? What are the new meanings of public space? How can we reinterpret architecture in the construction of contemporary cities? In the end, associated to the design of the residence: What is typology in architecture? How can the residence typology draw the city form? How is drawn the relationship between the individual house and the city, in the contemporary city and society? In short, this is a line of thinking that goes from understanding the city and the individual, passing by the architecture of public space and habitation.

A presente Dissertação teórico-prática surge das inquietações teóricas associadas a um projeto urbano e a uma residência de estudantes para a zona das Fontainhas no Porto, desenvolvidos ao longo do primeiro semestre de 2014/2015 no âmbito do curso "Estudos Avançados em Projeto de Arquitetura" - EAPA, da Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto. O curso estruturou-se tendo por base as disciplinas de Projeto e Construção, articuladas e complementadas com: História da Arquitetura; Teoria da Arquitetura Contemporânea; Urbanismo; Desenho; Fotografia de Arquitetura; e Cinema e Arquitetura. O que, complementou uma metodologia teórica transversal ao conhecimento envolvido na prática de Arquitetura. A estrutura da Dissertação está em paralelo com o desenvolvimento do projeto urbano e da residência de estudantes, e foi dividido em três fases: Primeiro, uma análise urbana, com a reformulação da relação entre o terreno de projeto e a cidade do Porto. Segundo, um projeto urbano, com o redesenho da malha urbana e do espaço público das Fontainhas. Por último, uma residência temporária, desenhada desde da sua forma na cidade aos seus detalhes construtivos. Neste sentido, associado à prática de projeto surgiram as inquietações a desenvolver na presente Dissertação: Num primeiro ponto, antes do projeto urbano questionamos: a relação entre a Arquitetura e a Cidade; a relação entre as disciplinas de Arquitetura e Urbanismo; e a postura de um arquiteto face a um projeto urbano. Num segundo ponto, associado à análise urbana indagamos: o início do Urbanismo; a compreensão dos planos urbanos implementados no Porto; e as transformações no entendimento sobre o espaço público. Num terceiro ponto, associado ao projeto urbano, desenhamos: o sentido de "terrain vague" na interpretação do terreno de projeto; os novos significados do espaço público; e uma reinterpretação da arquitetura no desenho da cidade contemporânea. Por último, associado à residência temporária, desenhamos: o conceito de tipologia em Arquitetura; a tipologia da habitação na forma da cidade do Porto; e a relação entre a habitação individual e a cidade, numa compreensão contemporânea da cidade e da sociedade. Em suma, existe uma linha de pensamento desde a compreensão da cidade ao indivíduo, passando pela arquitetura do espaço público à habitação.
