Abstract

As causas mais comuns de trauma em animais silvestres sao atropelamento, ataques de predadores, maus tratos, colisoes, eletrocussao, projeteis, armadilhas, entre outros. Os traumas evidenciam uma importante causa de morte em animais de vida livre, sendo as lesoes osteoarticulares e fraturas os motivos mais frequentes das eutanasias. Os cervideos do genero Mazama, no Brasil, abrangem oito especies, uma delas o Mazama gouazoubira com ampla distribuicao e grande capacidade de adaptacao aos diversos ambientes modificados ao longo dos anos. A caca ilegal, destruicao de areas para agropecuaria e a proximidade a animais domesticos tem causado lesoes, doencas e morte dessas especies. O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido com a finalidade de ressaltar a importância e os cuidados da reabilitacao de animais silvestres de vida livre, relatando o caso de trauma em Veado-catingueiro ( Mazama gouazoubira ), que apresentava fratura completa em terco medio de femur no membro pelvico esquerdo, atendido no Centro de Pesquisa e Triagem de Animais Silvestres do municipio de Cubatao/SP.
