Abstract

O uso de esteroides anabolizantes, como o decanoato de nandrolona, tem sido indicado para tratar estados catabolicos osseos por apresentar pouca atividade androgenica e efeito positivo sobre a massa ossea. Um cao da raca Poodle, de 2 anos de idade, com peso de 4 kg, foi submetido a duas aplicacoes por via intramuscular de 2mg/kg de decanoato de nandrolona 50mg (Deca-Durabolin ®) com intervalo de 15 dias, apos apresentar uniao retardada em fratura de umero. A imagem radiografica de 125 dias apos a osteossintese com o metodo de fixacao tied-in , sugeriu inicio de nao-uniao hipertrofica devido a espessa linha radiopaca correspondente a fratura e exuberância do calo osseo. Ao exame fisico, o paciente manifestou bom apoio do membro e o implante nao apresentou falha. O paciente retornou 145 dias apos a cirurgia para novo exame radiografico, o qual demonstrou evolucao do calo osseo, com presenca de ponte ossea unindo 3 corticais. Durante a avaliacao ortopedica apresentou marcha normal e nao foram observados clinicamente efeitos colaterais relacionados ao uso do decanoato de nandrolona. Conclui-se que este esteroide anabolizante possui grande potencial para estimulacao da proliferacao ossea em fratura com uniao retardada tendendo a nao-uniao em cao.
