Symbiotic Relationship between Orientia tsutsugamushi and Vector Mites.

Abstract

恙虫病リケッチア Orientia tsutsugamushi とベクターであるツツガムシとの関係について最近の知見を概説した。すなわち (1) O. tsutsugamushi には各種の血清型が存在するが, それぞれの血清型リケッチアを媒介するツツガムシ種は異なり, アカツツガムシは Kato 型リケッチアを, フトゲツツガムシは Karp 及び Gilliam 型を, タテツツガムシは Kawasaki 及び Kuroki 型を媒介する, (2) リケッチアはツツガムシ体内で共生関係にあり, 雌親ムシから卵を介して子孫に垂直伝播される, (3)ツツガムシの種によってはリケッチアを保有する雌から産まれる子孫は雌ばかりで雄は産生されない, (4) しかし一方でフトゲツツガムシの場合にはリケッチアを保有する雌から雌と雄の両方が産生され, 両者ともリケッチアを保有するが, 雄中のリケッチアは精包形成の過程で排除されて子孫には伝播せず, 雌中のリケッチアのみ子孫に伝播される, (5) 感染した野鼠にツツガムシが吸着してリケッチアを吸入してもそのリケッチアは子孫に垂直伝播される確率は極めて低く, 子孫にリケッチアが伝播されるのは本来リケッチアを保持する家系から産まれたツツガムシに限られる, などについての実験事実を紹介した。
