Eficácia da estimulação do nervo vago (VNS) no tratamento de Epilepsia: um relato de caso

Abstract

Introdução: A epilepsia é uma desordem neurológica de condição heterogênea que se caracteriza por múltiplos tipos de crises e apresenta prognóstico variável, sendo esses favoráveis, de fácil tratamento. Já a grave,apresenta-se com refratariedade terapêutica. A epilepsia é considerada grave,quando apresenta recidivas de crises, a despeito de uso regular de medicações. Nesse caso, deve-se considerar novas formas de tratamento, como o implante de Estimulador de Nervo Vago (VNS). Objetivo: analisar a viabilidade de implante de VNS para controle de epilepsias graves. Método: trata-se de um estudo observacional e descritivo, do tipo relato de caso, sobre uma paciente de 31 anos, com diagnóstico de epilepsia generalizada idiopática. Relato de caso: paciente em acompanhamento regular ambulatorial com serviço de neurologia, relata crises epilépticas desde os 07 anos de idade. Discussão: a paciente desse caso demonstrava agravo clínico e neurológico progressivo, e variadas tentativas medicamentosas já haviam sido realizadas, contudo, tal paciente mantinha crises diárias. Sendo assim, foi submetida à implante de VNS.A partir da ativação do implante, foi evidenciadoum menor número das crises de epilepsia. Conclusão: salienta-se que o implante de VNS, apesar de não ser uma terapia curativa, demonstra uma importante redução na frequência e na gravidade das crises.
