Abstract

La scène du «miracle du palais » , située presque au milieu des Bacchantes, constitue l’un des passages les plus controversés de cette tragédie. De fait, son interprétation a été très polarisée entre les partisans des lectures rationalistes et thaumaturgiques. Cette division parmi les chercheurs reproduit curieusement la même division que l’on trouve dans la tragédie entre Penthée, qui interprète tout ce qui arrive d’une manière rationnelle, et le reste des personnages, qui attribuent certains événements à la divinité. A notre avis, la double lecture possible de cette scène est un effet cherché par Euripide, qui essaie de montrer à son public que toute perception de la réalité est inévitablement subjective, le conduisant ainsi à un niveau de réflexion et de mise en question qui conditionne sa compréhension du reste de la tragédie.
