Mahoma protopícaro en el Viaje de la Tierra Santa (Zaragoza, 1498)

Abstract

La versión española del Viaje de la Tierra Santa publicada en Zaragoza en 1498 ofrece de Mahoma un curioso retrato destinado a desprestigiar al profeta del islam ridiculizándolo. Además de constituir un testimonio sobre las opciones ideológicas de la cristiandad europea defines del siglo XV, dicha semblanza presenta unos rasgos, con sus trapacerías y engaños, muy característicos del picaro literario cuya figura había de plasmarse en los decenios siguientes, deforma que cabe plantearse la naturaleza de semejante filiación.
