
El «De rebus Hispaniae» refleja la ideología política que se está elaborando en torno a Fernando III y a su madre la reina doña Berenguela. Pero también expresa el punto de vista pronobiliario de Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada y asimismo un momento de la génesis del poder monárquico en Castilla. Verdad es que se defiende en la obra el concepto de «dominus naturalis». Pero, según Rodrigo, los hechos muestran que este vínculo indefectible en el que quiere apoyarse la realeza tiene que verse confirmado por el deudo personal que se contrae en el «hominium».
