Abstract

Articulation, Contingence, Fusion : Susan Howe’s “Hinged Picture” Cet article se propose, à travers l’étude de “Hinge Picture” (“Image de la Charnière”), un des premiers poèmes de Susan Howe, d’analyser la primauté du visuel par rapport au linguistique. Howe s’efforce de trouver la description automatique de la charnière dont rêvait Marcel Duchamp, et ce à travers un travail sur des charnières de toutes natures : visuelles, verbales, ou historiques. L’article met en relief la détermination de Howe à manipuler espace et temps, à explorer la conception du désir de Duchamp en tant que trajectoire de l’objet vers la charnière et son retour, et également sa façon de transformer (contrairement à Duchamp) les idées en objets tangibles.
