Plantes-hôtes connues des Timarcha Latreille [Col. Chrysomelidae] . Quelques considérations sur les raisons possibles du trophisme sélectif

Abstract

Se conocen con exactitud las plantas huesped, de 47 especies y subespecies de Timarcha sobre un total de 180 formas descritas, lo cual deja todavia un amplio margen a la ignorancia. Las Americanotimarcha viven sobre Rosaceas, las Metallotimarcha quizas sobre Rubiaceas, pero ambos grupos de Inectos son raros, poco conocidos y de costumbres a menudo nocturnas. En cuanto a los subgeneros Timarcha s. str. y Timarcho stoma, viven sobre Rubiaceas herbaceas en Europa, pero abandonan progresivamente este regimen, por razones de necesidad ecologica, en el sudoeste de Francia, en Espana y en el Norte de Africa. La planta huesped de repuesto es generalmente un Plantago, pero puede ser tambien una Scabiosa (Dipsacaceas), una Veronica (Escrofulariaceas) o incluso un Alyssum (Cruciferas). La evolucion es clara desde las Rubiaceas a. las Dipsacaceas (parentesco botanico), a las Plantaginaceas (parentesco discutible) y a las Escrofulariaceas (relacionadas con los Plantago). Las Timarcha de Europa Central son exclusivamente galifagas, la adaptacion a los Plantago se realiza progresivamente hacia el sur y es muy a menudo reversible in vivo o in vitro. Solo las especies de la parte oriental del Norte de Africa son exclusivamente plantofagas y rechazan los Galium. Una especie (T . lugens ) presenta un espectro trofico casi completo ; pero queda aun una ingente labor a realizar, previa al establecimiento de conclusiones generales.
