Abstract

Fêtes à Cuba : Villaverde, Ortiz, Carpentier. Villaverde fait tourner son roman Cecilia Valdés autour du bal de la Saint Raphaël, le 24 octobre, commençant ainsi une tradition narrative cubaine qui met en scène la fête : rencontre d'un groupe social, diversité des milieux où chaque groupe exprime ses aspirations, le roman de Villaverde insiste sur le poids du modèle aristocratique dans les couches métissées. Ortiz, dans son essai sur Le Jour des Rois, est celui qui a su montrer la fête dans sa dimension anthropologique, rattachant la célébration qu'il étudie à des rites chrétiens et africains, cette célébration était le point culminant de l'année liturgique coloniale à Cuba, fête religieuse, elle a dérivé vers un défilé de carnaval et donne lieu à tous les débordements d'une fête populaire que l'autorité a tenté en vain de policer. Le choix de la fête comme révélateur d'une constellation culturelle à Cuba atteint son point culminant avec Carpentier ; chez ce dernier fêtes, carnavals et révolution vont coïncider et apparaître comme une fusion des origines diverses, hispaniques et africaines.
