Abstract

Issu de la Conférence sur l'archéologie péruvienne organisée à New York en juillet 1947, le numéro spécial que la revue américaine American Antiquity consacre à une mise à jour de l'archéologie péruvienne est digne d'être accueilli avec intérêt non seulement par les péruvianistes, mais encore par un très large public. N'y cherchons pas une description d'ensemble des cultures précolombiennes du Pérou : elle a été donnée par le Handbook of South American Indians, au moment même où se tenait la conférence de New York. Le but, aussi bien que le mérite de l'étude que nous signalons, est de mettre au point un certain nombre de questions archéologiques encore pendantes et d'orienter l'intérêt des chercheurs vers des voies nouvelles.
