Abstract

De la Libération au tournant des années 1980, les MJC •associations loi 1901 •ont prétendu exercer un rôle d’accueil et de concertation pour les autres associations, sur le modèle des bourses du travail. Favorisées par leur caractère semi-institutionnel, elles ont participé à la rationalisation de la vie associative dans les villes moyennes et le monde rural. Elles se sont largement ouvertes aux autres associations et, à ce titre, ont parfois revendiqué le rôle de «contre-pouvoir associatif» après Mai 68. Mais, à la fin des années 1970, elles n’étaient plus en mesure d’ambitionner le rôle de «bourses du travail du monde associatif» : victimes de leur banalisation et de l’institutionnalisation des politiques culturelles locales, elles comptaient désormais seulement comme des associations parmi d’autres.
