La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo principal comprobar la efectividad de las semillas de linaza como coagulante natural en la clarificación de aguas con alta turbidez. Se utilizaron muestras de aguas provenientes de la red de distribución local, las cuales se ajustaron a valores de pH entre 3-4 unidades y turbiedades iguales a 180, 200, 220, 240 y 260 UNT. Estas fueron tratadas con el coagulante en dosis de 30 mg/L-150 mg/L y se realizaron las pruebas de jarras. Se determinaron los parámetros fisicoquímicos antes y después de filtrar. Los resultados después del tratamiento con el extracto acuoso linaza a dosis óptimas de 30 mg/L y 60 mg/L reflejan valores de turbidez (1,19 UNT- 2,99 UNT), color (7 UC Pt-Co-12,50 UC Pt-Co) y alcalinidad (23,00 mg CaCO3/L-42,67 mg CaCO3/L) que se ubican en rangos permisibles y evidencian el cumplimiento de las normativas de calidad del agua potable. Se concluye que la linaza es un coagulante eficiente en la clarificación del agua.
