ENDOSCOPIC MUCOSAL RESECTION

Abstract

EMR was developed for minimally invasive, organ-sparing endoscopic removal of benign and early malignant lesions in the GI tract. Endoscopic mucosal resection was pioneered in Japan [Soetikno et al. 2003] for the management of early gastric cancer. This has gained wider acceptance as a therapeutic option for various gastrointestinal lesions around the globe 1.
