IMPACTO DA DENSIDADE DO SOLO SOBRE O CRESCIMENTO DE VARIEDADES DE MILHETO

Abstract

Em solos compactados, as raízes encontram impedimento físico que limita o crescimento e sustentação da planta, por reduzir a exploração de camadas úmidas do solo e o acesso a nutrientes que encontram-se distribuídos no perfil. Com a expansão do plantio direto, cresce a busca por cultivares usada como planta de cobertura e atuem na descompactação do solo. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o crescimento aéreo e desenvolvimento radicular de três cultivares de milheto sob três níveis de compactação do solo. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado no esquema fatorial 3x3, sendo três cultivares de milheto: comum, ANM-17 e ANM-25, e três níveis de camada compactada do solo: 1,20 ± 0,03; 1,31 ± 0,03 e 1,44 ± 0,03 Mg m-3, com quatro repetições. Foram montados, em tubos PVC, três camadas de solo, onde a superior e inferior apresentavam altura de 0,20 m, enquanto que a camada compactada (média) possuía altura de 0,05 m. Avaliou-se a altura, diâmetro do colmo, área foliar, fitomassa da parte aérea e a do sistema radicular. Os resultados demonstram que o crescimento aéreo e desenvolvimento radicular do milheto não diferem entre as cultivares avaliadas, e que o efeito da compactação limita para as três cultivares a produção de massa seca da parte aérea e do sistema radicular.
