Abstract

Hiperkolesterolemia adalah salah satu faktor utama penyebab penyakit kardiovaskular yang memerlukan penanganan yang efektif dan berkelanjutan. Penggunaan bahan alami sebagai alternatif terapi semakin mendapat perhatian, termasuk daun salam (Syzygium polyanthum). Penelitian ini merupakan tinjauan literatur yang bertujuan mengevaluasi potensi daun salam sebagai agen antihiperkolesterolemia berdasarkan bukti ilmiah yang ada. Data diperoleh melalui pencarian berbagai artikel ilmiah yang mencakup studi in vivo, uji klinis, serta pendekatan in vitro dan in silico. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif kemudian disajikan dalam bentuk tabel dan diagram untuk mempermudah visualisasi sebaran data. Hasil telaah mengindikasikan bahwa daun salam secara konsisten dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol total, LDL, dan trigliserida, sekaligus memperbaiki profil lipid secara keseluruhan. Mekanisme aksi yang teridentifikasi meliputi penghambatan enzim HMG CoA reductase, penurunan absorpsi kolesterol di usus, peningkatan metabolisme lipid, serta aktivitas antioksidan dan antiinflamasi. Senyawa bioaktif yang teridentifikasi antara lain flavonoid, saponin, tanin, dan polifenol yang bekerja secara sinergis menghasilkan efek multitarget pada metabolisme lipid. Beberapa uji klinis juga menunjukkan efektivitas yang signifikan pada pasien dislipidemia, meskipun terdapat variasi pada beberapa parameter seperti HDL. Daun salam berpeluang dikembangkan menjadi terapi herbal alternatif atau komplementer dalam penanganan hiperkolesterolemia. Tetapi pengembangan daun salam sebagai terapi klinis masih memerlukan penelitian lebih lanjut, khususnya uji klinis berskala besar, standarisasi ekstrak, dan penilaian keamanan jangka panjang.
