Abstract

La toxocariasis es una enfermedad zoonótica que afecta a los niños y está muy extendida debido a sus agentes etiológicos biológicos. Toxocara canis suelen infectarse con el parásito, que provoca una variedad de lesiones y síntomas. La larva migrans visceral, la larva migrans ocular, la toxocarosis neurológica y la toxocarosis encubierta son sólo algunos de los síndromes graves en humanos causados ​​por la toxocara canis. Debido a la morbilidad que puede causar en los humanos y lo difícil que puede ser controlarla, la toxocariasis es una enfermedad zoonótica de gran importancia. La preocupación de revisar un tema actual que puede considerarse olvidado y descuidado por la falta de estudios nacionales y latinos, surge de hallazgos recientes sobre su asociación con otras patologías, el avance en técnicas de diagnóstico y nuevos descubrimientos terapéuticos. En este artículo se revisa la biología del parásito Toxocara canis y su importancia clínico-epidemiológica en humanos, con enfoque en Ecuador.
