Importância da crioterapia na lipólise

Abstract

No Brasil, o excesso de peso alcança valores relevantes e atinge todas as classes sócio-econômicas, estando diretamente relacionado com o í­ndice de morbidade, incluindo hipertensão, diabetes mellitus tipo II e moléstias cardio-vasculares. O aumento do percentual de gordura é conseqüência da elevação da ingestão calórica, em detrimento da demanda energética. Além dos meios convencionais, dieta hipocalórica e/ou exercí­cio fí­sico, a crioterapia possibilita efeitos de grande importância para o aumento do metabolismo energético, por liberar hormônios lipolí­ticos, determinando a hidrólise dos triglicerí­deos dos depósitos de gordura. O presente trabalho revisa a importância da crioterapia na lipólise. A exposição ao frio faz com que haja uma necessidade extra de calor para garantir a homeotermia. Assim, o hipotálamo estimula a liberação hormonal para ativar a termogênese e manter a temperatura em ní­veis normais. Os ácidos graxos livres são, então, utilizados como substratos energéticos pelas mitocôndrias para produção de calor, aumentando, dessa forma, o dispêndio energético.
