Melanesia has experienced instability and violence in recent years, as symbolised by the 2006 Fiji coup. This article reviews the coup and concludes that it has negatively impacted upon key factors that influence Fiji's human security - the economy, the quality of life, and human rights. It also concludes that Fiji faces an uncertain future.
