Medea y la voz del otro en el teatro latinoamericano contemporáneo

Abstract

La tragedia griega “inventa” a la mujer como necesaria contraparte a la medida del imaginario patriarcal predominante, en dos tipos principales: la sacrificada y resignada víctima (Casandra, Ifigenia, Alcestes) o aquella de la que ya hablaba Hesíodo en su mito de Pandora, que bajo una atrayente forma oculta la destrucción (Clitemestra, Medea, Fedra).Pero en particular la figura de Medea, mujer, extranjera, con conocimientos poco comunes y por tanto conceptuados de mágicos, aunaba ya en el mito varios “otros”; alteridad sometida e inferiorizada dentro de los cánones culturales hegemónicos en la sociedad griega clásica, pero siempre sentida no ya como un peligro latente, sino como una clara advertencia del temible monstruo encerrado, o más bien aparentemente domesticado, tanto más cuando del papel tra dicional de simple ayudante había pasado a un primer plano frente a un Jasón empequeñecido, el cual antepone el uso de su atractivo personal y del amor que provoca, a las armashabituales del guerrero de las grandes sagas.
