Abstract

Il processo di rinnovamento della Geometria descrittiva promosso da Riccardo Migliari più di vent’anni fa ha coinvolto nel tempo un gran numero di studiosi. L’esigenza di rinnovamento, scaturita dalla rivoluzione informatica e dall’evoluzione della modellazione digitale, ha aperto numerose prospettive di ricerca, teorica ed applicata. Di contro, sul fronte della didattica nella formazione degli Architetti, Ingegneri e Designer, il processo di revisione disciplinare non ha ottenuto lo stesso risultato. Nel panorama scientifico nazionale permane una sostanziale volontà di rimanere ancorati ad una tradizione novecentesca che, per molti aspetti, è evidentemente anacronistica. Si è più volte ragionato sui contenuti e sulle finalità della Geometria descrittiva, su Monge e sulla sua eredità scientifica nei due secoli a seguire, sul ruolo dei metodi della rappresentazione, senza però giungere a posizioni condivise. Le applicazioni della geometria nel campo dell’architettura, dell’ingegneria e del design, riguardano sempre più uno specifico ambito di studio, quello della Geometria prestazionale, in cui i processi generativi di costruzione della forma sono pensati ed assoggettati a regole in funzione di precisi input e conseguenti output. La modellazione digitale ha inevitabilmente reso obsolete alcune procedure di rappresentazione tipiche della tradizione novecentesca, modificando al contempo anche i processi di apprendimento delle relazioni geometriche che governano la forma.

The renovation process of the descriptive Geometry promoted by Riccardo Migliari twenty years ago has involved a large number of scholars. The need for renovation, arising from the IT revolution and the digital modeling evolution, has opened up numerous theoretical and applied research perspectives. On the other hand, on the teaching front for Architects, Engineers and Designers training, the disciplinary revision process doesn’t obtained the same results. In the national scientific panorama there is a substantial will to remain anchored to a twentieth-century tradition which, in many respects, is evidently anachronistic. Quite often the researchers have reasoned about contents of descriptive Geometry, on Monge's contribute and his scientific inheritance in the two centuries later, on the role of the methods of representation, without however reaching fully shared positions. The applications of geometry in the field of architecture, engineering and design increasingly concern a specific field of study, that of performance Geometry, in which the generative processes of construction of the form are conceived and subjected to rules according to precise inputs and subsequent outputs. Digital modeling has inevitably made some typical representation procedures of the twentieth century tradition obsolete, while also modifying the learning processes of the geometric relationships that govern the shape.
