Abstract

Handlungen und Mechanismen, mit denen Normen und gesellschaftliche Ordnung aufrechterhalten werden (sollen), werden in der Soziologie als soziale Kontrolle bezeichnet. In der (kritischen) Kriminologie dagegen wird soziale Kontrolle häufig in einem eingeschränkten Begriffsverständnis benutzt und mit strafrechtlicher Kontrolle gleichgesetzt. Der Beitrag will an zwei Beispielen der Entwicklung sozialer Kontrolle zeigen, dass sowohl das erklärende als auch das aufklärende Potenzial des Begriffs durch die verbreitete kriminologische Engführung zu wenig genutzt wird.
