El español en el estrecho de Gibraltar y el Magreb

Abstract

Este libro presenta el español hablado en el estrecho de Gibraltar y el Magreb, gracias a un trabajo de campo que, de manera exhaustiva, ha recogido muestras orales espontáneas de hablantes procedentes de Ceuta, Melilla, el oeste de Argelia, el antiguo protectorado en Marruecos, el Sáhara Occidental, la bahía de Algeciras y el peñón de Gibraltar. Los resultados ofrecen la vigencia del español en la actualidad en dichos territorios, así como su caracterización lingüística y las dinámicas de "code-switching" que se establecen en el contacto con el inglés, el árabe y el bereber. Asimismo, los datos permiten establecer la importancia de ciertos factores de índole sociolingüística y la relevancia de la lengua con la que convive el español en los distintos lugares encuestados. Los cambios inducidos por contacto se entremezclan con otros fenómenos comunes en todo el ámbito hispanófono, pero es el prestigio y la idea de ascensor social las variables que moldean las soluciones lingüísticas de los bilingües, así como el mantenimiento o muerte de la lengua española.
