1. Electrical responses to clicks were recorded from the ventral cochlear nucleus in curarized cats, and the effect thereon of brain stem repetitive stimulation was investigated (stereotaxic method). 2. Clear-cut inhibition of the cochlear nucleus response to click was recorded when a critically-localized region of the posterior diencephalon was stimulated. 3. These and previous results provide the first physiological evidence for a specific extra-reticular descending pathway, presumably enabling higher levels of the nervous system to control acoustic input. © 1958, SAGE Publications. | selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 44 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 1% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Top 10% |
