SummaryAlkali treated Streptomyces aureojaciens fermentation liquor contained considerable unchanged aureomycin. The pure antibiotic is inactivated by similar treatment. The product arising from mild alkaline inactivation of aureomycin was isolated and found to have essentially no antibacterial activity and no growth stimulating activity for the chick.
