Populismo y autoritarismo

Abstract

Este capítulo se centra en dos debates sobre la relación del populismo con el autoritarismo. El primero aborda al populismo como un tipo sui generis de autoritarismo relacionado con el fascismo pero diferente de este. Al comparar a Benito Mussolini con Juan Perón algunos académicos argumentaron que el nacional–populismo fue un tipo diferente de régimen autocrático debido a su base social, al papel de las elecciones como fuente de legitimidad y restringir la violencia a la retórica. Después de que políticos radicales de derecha ganaran elecciones nacionales en Estados Unidos, Brasil, Argentina, y del fortalecimiento de partidos como la Rassemblement National, Vox y otros, los debates sobre la relación del populismo con el fascismo regresaron con fuerza. ¿Cuál es la mejor manera de caracterizar a los políticos radicales de derecha? ¿Son populistas o fascistas?
