Abstract

La televisión mexicana comenzó a operar oficialmente el 31 de agosto de 1950. La primera transmisión se realizó el 1 de septiembre de ese mismo año a través del Canal 4, frecuencia concesionada a Rómulo O’Farril. Las siguientes concesiones de televisión también fueron otorgadas por el presidente de la república Miguel Alemán, una a Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta, el Canal 2, y otra a Guillermo González Camarena, el Canal 5. Los tres canales tenían programaciones muy similares y competían por la publicidad con contenidos de concurso, entrevistas y musicales. Cinco años después, en 1955, los concesionarios de esas frecuencias decidieron fusionarse y conformar Telesistema Mexicano (TSM), antecedente de la actual Televisa.
