Except for the occasional effort by Sheldon Rosen and Louis del Grande, there are few theatrical innovators now working in Canada who come anywhere near playwright Hrant Alianak in terms of sheer madness and unabashed theatricality. Alianak is, without a doubt, this country’s foremost experimental playwright and that is, at once, his greatest appeal as well as his greatest drawback. Experiment has never been one of our most appreciated virtues.
