Unlike traditional playscripts, James Reaney’s The Dismissal can be seen not as a blueprint for future performance, but as an historical record of a single past performance. Commissioned and performed in November 1977 for the University of Toronto’s l50th anniversary, the play deals with the blights and plight s of that same campus 80 years earlier in time.
