Is this really your job? Incredulity always. You mean, you get to play all day? Like, all the time? In a world where work equals serious purpose, theatre defies the definition of job. We have too much fun. We look at each other too hard. We grow too close in rehearsal. Theatre is by its very nature subversive of industrial routine. Acting a range of perspectives and power leaves a body open to the permanent implications of living those realities. We play far too seriously.
