This paper examines the efficiency of the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm 2 (SPEA2) in order to obtain the optimal arrangement of base-isolation devices in buildings. SPEA2 is part of the Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). This method is used for multi-purpose optimization problems with two or more targets functions that couldn't have been solved with the previous Genetic Algorithm (GA). In order to determine the optimal design, two buildings were selected and re-designed with GA and SPEA2. Finally, a comparison was made among them. Consequently, the efficiency of the application of SPEA2 was demonstrated.
