Szkice o zbrodni w kulturze staropolskiej (XV–XVII wiek). Między faktem, historią a literaturą

Abstract

This book sheds light on old-time crimes committed in Poland from the the 15th century to the 17th century. Old Polish chronicles, memoirs and other documents of social life constitute the basic source of knowledge in that respect. The main objective of this book is to find an answer to the question concerning mutual relations between a historical fact, i.e. a murder committed at a particular time on a particular specific person by a given perpetrator or perpetrators, and the traces thereof reflected in various texts throughout different epochs. The more spectacular the crime, the more evidence of it being committed, but also the more discrepancies and interpretations. Therefore, the subject of this paper is a scientific attempt to examine those records.
