Argumentacja Alana Hájka dowodząca wadliwości zakładu Pascala

Abstract

Zakład Pascala pozostaje jednym z najbardziej oryginalnych argumentów dotyczących fundamentalnych zagadnień filozofii religii. Szczególnie interesujący jest jego wieloaspektowy charakter, łączący analizę filozoficzną i teologiczną z elementami rachunku prawdopodobieństwa oraz teorii gier. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie krytyki tego argumentu dokonanej przez Alana Hájeka, współczesnego australijskiego filozofa. Hájek twierdzi, że idea Pascala o „opłacalności” wiary w Boga opiera się na błędnym rozumowaniu. W świetle współczesnej wiedzy z zakresu teorii prawdopodobieństwa Hájek odrzuca wszystkie trzy kluczowe przesłanki Pascala:1. Racjonalne jest przypisywanie dodatniej wartości prawdopodobieństwu istnienia Boga.2. Człowiek musi dokonać wyboru: wierzyć lub nie wierzyć, a skutki tego wyboru można przewidzieć w zależności od tego, czy Bóg istnieje, czy nie.3. Racjonalność nakazuje wybór działania prowadzącego do największej oczekiwanej wartości.
