Abstract

The article examines the views and activities of the Argentine writer and politician Manuel Ugarte, his plans to create The Patria Grande - union of Latin American states. According to Ugarte, the main obstacle for the progressive development of Latin America was its dependence upon imperialistic powers, especially the United States. His proposed measures were to create national industry, diversify production and investment, the development of national culture.
