The ramifications and connections of the ascending auditory pathway within the brain stem from the entrance of the auditory nerve up to the inferior colliculi has been studied in decerebrated cats using electrophysiologic methods. Suitable acoustic stimuli were achieved with “click impulses”. Potentials arising in the brain stem were in turn detected with an exploring microelectrode and electronically amplified before being led to a twin beam oscilloscope.
