Abstract

<p>El concepto de membrana filtrante del esmalte se entiende como el conjunto de estructuras del esmalte que permite que en determinadas regiones se puedan establecer canales microscópicos de difusión de productos bacterianos desde la superficie externa del tejido. Clínicamente esta propiedad del esmalte es utilizada para llevar a cabo medidas preventivas, aprovechando el sistema submicroscópico de transporte molecular, el cual permite un intercambio iónico entre el esmalte y la saliva, así el ión flúor es incorporado contribuyendo de este modo a aumentar la resistencia de la superficie externa del esmalte al ataque de la caries. Las investigaciones realizadas nos aportan que al ser el esmalte semipermeable permite el flujo lento de agua e iones con la saliva, de esta manera algunos elementos presentes en la saliva se pueden incorporar al esmalte con lo que posibilitamos la remineralización continua del tejido, lo cual favorece una menor incidencia de caries. </p>
