Una visión vivencial del sistema sanitario brasileño

Abstract

Aunque Brasil tiene un sistema sanitario público universal (el SUS), elaborado con base en el concepto de salud como derecho del ciudadano, hay grandes diferencias en el acceso al sistema por la sanidad pública o privada. Este artículo presenta un “retrato fresco” del sistema sanitario brasileño, desde la perspectiva del paciente, a través de relatos narrativos de un médico de cabecera, y de algunas situaciones clínicas paradigmáticas del día a día de la atención sanitaria en escenarios diferentes. Se presenta las principales características del acceso público y privado, y se reflexiona sobre la situación general de la sanidad del país, con énfasis en temas de políticas de salud, accesibilidad, minorías, y calidad asistencial. Concluimos que las políticas actuales de salud pública con inequidades en el acceso al sistema sanitario, afecta negativamente la calidad de la atención sanitaria, reduciendo la autonomía y el derecho a la salud en Brasil.
