Linguistic Ways of Representing Author’s Modality in M. A. Bulgakov’s Novel “The Master and Margarita”

Abstract

The aim of the research is to interpret the conceptual (content-related) features of the field category of author’s modality in M. A. Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita” by analysing the lexico-grammatical and contextual linguistic means of its representation. Scientific originality lies in developing mechanisms for systematisation of different-level means of expressing the category of author’s modality to conduct a comprehensive field study. As a result of the research, the category features and specifics of the text category of author’s modality have been identified; the ways of representing the lexico-semantic space of M. A. Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita” have been determined; a qualitative and quantitative characteristic of the identified linguistic units combined into macro fields and micro fields has been proposed.
