La turistificación, así como otros fenómenos derivados, acerca a los museos a la tipología de no-lugares descrita por Marc Augé en 1992, vaciándolos del significado asociado a los lugares identitarios y, en cambio, dotándolos de otros nuevos, cuyas características principales vienen configurándose en tipologías consensuadas globalmente y que, en cierto modo, promueven la pérdida simbólica.
