Abstract

There are few things as abstract and complex as identity. Not only because of everything that this concept encompasses, but also because of each person´s own conception and interpretation of the term. This paper focuses mainly on ethnic identity and its analysis through Archaeology. But it will not only analyse this concept but also tries to apply it to Proto-History, specifically to the Vetton case, whose most characteristic cultural manifestation are the theriomorphic representations known as “Verracos”. Even though there are several interpretations about these emblems, this paper aims to deepen into the Vettons´ identity manifestation through their sculptures, as well as the transcendence of these symbols. That is to say, it also aims to analyse the significance that is currently given to these zoomorphics.
