La conquista española no sólo trajo consigo un nuevo ordenamiento económico, social y político sino también una concepción distinta de las divinidades así como una forma de culto extraña. El encuentro con las concepciones religiosas indígenas tuvo intención y carácter de imposición sobre el panorama religioso indígena, el cuál, sin embargo, no logra ser opacado totalmente. Las características de las divinidades indígenas permanecen como parámetros interpretativos para entender y rendir homenaje al nuevo Dios, su Hijo, la Virgen y los santos. El autor examina la forma en la que se establece esta interacción semántica entre esferas religiosas con particularidades propias (una de tipo politeísta y la otra de tipo monoteísta); pero, a pesar de ello, con algo en común: la necesidad del ser humano de establecer un contacto con lo sagrado.

The Spanish conquest did not only bring a new economic, social and political order, but also a different conception of divinities as well as a strange cult form. The clash with the indigenous religious conceptions resulted in an imposition on the indigenous religious panorama, which, however, was not totally expunged. The characteristics of the indigenous divinities remain as interpretive parameters to understand and to surrender homage to the new God, his Son, the Virgin, and the saints. The author examines the form in which this semantic interaction settles among religious spheres with their own particularities (one of the polytheistic type and the other monotheistic); despite this, both had something in common: the human being’s need to establish contact with the sacred.
